"Dear Lord," I prayed, "Give me a friend
Who's sweet, sincere and true;
One whose desire it is to be
The image, Lord, of You.
I need a friend whom I can trust
Right from the very start;
One who will also share with me
The burdens on her heart.
Please make her strong enough to stand
When I begin to fall
For all of us grow weak sometimes
And need a friend to call.
And then one day, God answered my prayer
In such a nice way, too;
He sorted through his choicest girls
And finally gave me you.
Thank you for your loving ways,
Your kind and gentle touch.
You're much more than I asked for
And I love you so much.
