I watched as the old man climbed a hill
Sometimes he would stop very still
He was feeble, his steps slow
Resting awhile, then on he would go.

The hill was rough and steep
The old man climbed on weary feet
He never gave up at any time
He had a hill to climb.

Time and again he had to stop
Finally he reached the top
The old man was feeble and grey
And he climbed the hill that day.

He was determined and did his best
He climbed and passed the test
The old man knew it did not pay
To give up too quickly on life's way.

If there is work that you must do
Do not give up until you are through
It took the old man a long long time
He was patient, but that hill he did climb.

be patient, move upward one step at a time"
